We Fly
Hi,
I took this photo in April of this year 2010. It captures what it feels like to paddle in our Ladysmith harbour. We had just got our boat and this may have been Our first time taking it out on our own. We are just completing our 1st season as Dragon boaters. What an incredible season it has been. From watching the Eagles in the spring , we have counted 13 at one time; from the seals that were and still are so curious of us since this first day we entered their waters ( we call them “Lucy”). It all started with Denise and Susan and an idea; and has grown to a group of 3 teams with around 70 of the most amazing ladies I have ever met. This photo to me captures the spirit that we feel when we get into that boat; pure excitement waiting for everyone to come down the dock, expectation and excitement : their is nothing more exhilarating than hearing those words”Paddles Up” ; Feeling the Power that WE can create together; reaching, pulling , demanding ourselves to give more…and than “Let it Run”. The bond is complete. We are our own little community of “spirit” on the water, different ages, different goals, different lives. But when we get into our Dragon boat….we fly!!! There is nothing like it!
